HENNING GERICKE Registered Counsellor
I am an experienced therapist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). In SFBT we FOCUS on solutions, strengths and resources. Most noteworthy, we do this WITHOUT ignoring problems.
Furthermore, I am actively part of an international community of Solution Focused therapists. Consequently I am listed internationally as a Solution Focused counsellor.
Being listed on therapist directories increases credibility because directories verify your professional registration. I am listed on the following directories: Psychology Today and Therapist Directory.
Am I only using the one approach (modality)? Yes! Here is the reason!
HERE are some guiding questions to help you choose a therapist and type of therapy that will work for you.
About me and you
I welcome individuals aged 13 and up to therapy, recognizing that each person, regardless of age, arrives with the potential for engagement, readiness, and capacity for change, irrespective of whether they're aware of it initially.
My passions
I have a keen interest to provide general counselling to emergency care workers and doctors and nurses. Additionally, creating awareness of issues that affect these groups, such as burnout, moral injury and trauma.
I am very passionate about serving the community.
In 2018 I did volunteer counselling at Calling Academy, a high school for boys from low income communities.
In 2019 I volunteered on the Transnet Phelophepa train's Psychology carriage. I counselled members of the Swellendam community. Furthermore, I presented workshops in Swellendam and vicinity. This included workshops at a primary health clinic, a school and a correctional facility.
From November 2019 till March 2020 I did volunteer counselling at Helderberg State Hospital in Somerset West.
Since 2020 I have been part of a network that provides doctors and nurses on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic with free counselling: Healthcare Workers Care Network. I was also part of a similar network in 2020: Medical Frontliners Counselling Online
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the outreach of Global First Responder to the Northern Cape in September 2020, I would have been part of, had to be cancelled.
